Forbidden Drive

Here's a story. It's based on a real event. Rest in peace Mary Katherine Ladany.

http://www.southjerseyunderground.com/

This site is a little tricky. The story appears on page 49 of issue 10. The arrow in the upper right hand corner makes the text larger. It's either that or ten bucks for a print copy of the journal.

Be well.

Veils and Elephants

I didn't die. I'm still around. In fact, I published a story.

Here: http://annalemma.net/

Annalemma's a cool site. Fiction. Art. Essays.

Enjoy. Be well.

2 Straight Tuesdays

Here's a little story in "the Dirty Napkin." If you read it before it goes into their archives, there's audio:

It's the first day of Spring. When you're done with this, go outside!

'Juniors' in mfa/mfyou

mfa/mfyou is a cool site that engages in the 'MFA or not?' discussion by publishing work from those in and out of programs. 'Juniors' appears in the current issue. Click 'Current Issue' and then 'MFA Fiction.'

Reading

I'll be reading at Rosemont College this Friday night, November 13 at 7pm in the Main Building, along with Benjamin Heins, Todd Stevens, Jess Bouchard, Nate Green, and the incomparable Sarah Rose Etter.

I don't know what I'm reading. Hit me with a suggestion.

Yeah

No excuse for the delay. My bad. Two stories coming soon in PANK and Burst Fiction. In the meantime, good essay by Roxane Gay, editor of PANK, about writing, publishing and race:

"Brother Baines is a two bit hustler, but one hand washes the other."

Soon.

A Playground Remembrance

Here's story two. It was written a long time ago and it's interesting to see how voice changes over time. This was when I was in full John Wideman knock-off mode.

Foundling Review is a cool site. Cool looking, too.

Enjoy.

Full Sin Value

30 days or two stories on the same day, that's the new rule. Yep, just making it up as I go along.

Full Sin Value in Thieves Jargon. Their description is perfect. "Catholicism: the spiritual bargain hunter's religion of choice."

Enjoy.

Quarter Year Interlude

New Story. For some reason there are page breaks inserted in the text. Try your best to ignore them.

Michael never stopped.

True

I'm trying to be true to my word. Here's a post within 30 days. Content:

Interview with Junot Diaz: http://laist.com/2008/04/10/laist_interview_134.php

Also, just sampled Mos Def's new album, The Ecstatic. Dope. It may be the first full length album I purchase in YEARS. I think it'll be good writing music.

I gots two stories on the way. "Quarter Year Interlude" in Pens on Fire. And, "Full Sin Value" in Thieves Jargon. Maybe I'll get Steven Seagal with it and just make every title a three word phrase . . . In any case, the stories are forthcoming.

Couple-Three Things

Here's a new piece due out in print soon entitled, Can I Get A Witness. You have to scroll a ways to page 32. A ways. But at least this way you don't have to buy the journal. Of course, if you want to buy the journal . . .

Link: http://www.farawayjournal.com/something-to-look-at/.

Another story, Readiness, is coming out in Weave Magazine (See 'Work Forthcoming In') in the next few weeks. This one will be in print only, so you'll have to pony up a little dough to read it. Or I suppose you could just ask me for a copy.

Finally, I'm taking my show on the road! I have two readings coming up. One on Sunday in Pittsburgh for Weave. The other is next Sunday, May 3, in Philadelphia, at the Manayunk Arts Center, 419 Green Lane, 6PM.

See you soon.

Pop Speak

Here's a newly published piece. It's at a site called Pequin which does a cool thing by matching photography up with short stories. Enjoy.

Able Motivators

Here's a newly published short short story. It's on a site called Tuesday Shorts. The first writer ever published on Tuesday Shorts also wrote the first "Oprah's Book Club" novel. I don't know.

Here's the link:   www.tuesdayshorts.blogspot.com/2009/02/able-motivators.html

The requirement for the site is that stories be 100 words or less. "Able Motivators" is exactly 100 words.

Enjoy.
